Sorting Your Dinner Table For Guests

Dinner parties are a very popular these days and are great ways to meet new people and show off your home and your cooking. If you are new to hosting a dinner party however, it can be hard to know where to start. Below is a helpful guide to how you set a dinner table up for guests

Glasses. Every person should have ideally 3 glasses to start with in their place setting.  Wine glasses are must, but it doesn’t need to be crystal glass. A tumbler should be provided for drinking water and a taller glass for any other drinks people want.

Decanters. Instead of having juice, water or other drinks in their containers, why not serve them in decanters. These not only look better than branded bottles but also do not clutter up the table like empties do and can be filled very easily

Cloths and napkins. The table should be covered in light colour table cloth that does not have any harsh patterns or colours. You need to give each of your guests a napkin and its worth having extra available just in case anyone needs a clean one

Cutlery. This depends of what is being served but at a minimum should consist of a knife for bread, a knife for food, a food and pudding fork and a spoon for pudding. You use your cutlery from the furthest away from the plate to the nearest, so you should set it up accordingly

Dressing. In order to make your table setting stand out from the crowd, you can place great additionally item on it as long as you're sensible.  Candle holders look great in moderation, as do glass vases filled with fresh flowers. If your table is of a large enough size you could even get away with having feature centre piece
